Screening examinations

The early detection of certain diseases and the recording of health risks are essential components of primary care. The goal: to recognize the occurrence of diseases and risk factors as well as disabilities as early as possible, because in the initial stages treatment and prevention options and the prospect of healing can be better.

Here is an overview of the preventive examinations paid for by the statutory health insurance companies:

The

Health check up

Check-up (every three years) for women and men from the age of 36:

The

Early detection of abdominal aortic aneurysms, men 65 years and older: One-time ultrasound examination for the early detection of an aneurysm of the abdominal artery.

Early detection of cancer,

Breast examination (annually) in women from the age of 30 years

Skin cancer screening every two years from the age of 35

Early detection of colorectal cancer from the age of 50,

Child and adolescent examinations

The

U-examinations (examinations for the early detection of diseases in children) for girls and boys from birth to the age of six years:

  • Ten examinations in the first six years of life, starting immediately after birth (U1 to U10).

  • J-examinations (adolescent health examination) for girls and boys between the ages of 13 and 14 (± 1 year).
